Volunteer Spotlight September 2024

Every month, the Citrus County Library System features a volunteer in their “Outside the Stacks” blog on their website. This month, Central Ridge Library would like to shine the spotlight on Lynda. We asked Lynda several questions and thought it would be fun to share her responses!

Volunteer Spotlight
Central Ridge Volunteer of the month in September 2024, Lynda

Lynda

Q: Why did you start volunteering?

A: I started volunteering when I retired and moved to Citrus County in 2009. I heard that they were looking for people to help children to read at the local elementary school. I really enjoyed doing that and I got to help on in their library. Once summer break came I was at a bit of a loss until someone told me about volunteering at the library. I jumped at the chance and have been doing it ever since.

Q: Has volunteering changed how you see the library?

A: By volunteering at the library, I am keeping myself busy and also in touch with people, whilst doing something worthwhile. I mainly shelve books which I really enjoy, I get to see what other people are reading, I’m also happy to help wherever needed. When I first started I was surprised at how busy and how different Programs are available to people. The library supports both young and old and I’m glad I can be a small part in keeping it going.

Q: Who is your favorite author?

A: I have 2 favourite authors. Louise Penny, I love her inspector Gamache series. Lucinda Riley who’s books really catch your heart especially her 7 sisters’ series. In fact, if anyone asks me for a book recommendation I tell them to read the 7 sisters she wrote the 7 books before she passed away and her son complete the 8th book for her.

Q: Other than volunteering, what do you like to do with your free time?

A: In 2017 my husband and I along with our 2 dachshunds took a 4-month long trip in our small RV. Travelling over 14000 miles from FL north to Great Falls Montana stopping in the various state parks on the way including Custer State park in SD. From Montana we made our way up through Canada and the Yukon, yes, we did pan for gold, and on into Alaska. After traveling around Alaska taking in all the beautiful sites and history we made our way back down the west coast to the US turning east for home at San Francisco. Again, we stopped at state parks along the way, we saw many wonderful places and met lots of great people. A trip of a lifetime.
In my free time I read a lot of love doing jigsaw puzzles the more challenging the better. Usually 1000 piece, but I have done a 3000 piece one! I also enjoy line dancing and walking my dog Fernie every day.
