Bonnie A.
Why did you start volunteering?
After forty plus years in the healthcare field, when I retired I wanted to do something different as an activity. I initially took a BLS training in South Carolina, and then a Pre-GED course here in Florida. I found I loved sharing information with adult learners. I volunteer because I get much more than I give.
Has volunteering changed how you see the library?
Citrus County Library System is wonderful ! Staff are helpful and resources are plentiful.
What’s been one of your favorite volunteer moments?
There are so many different situations that I felt I may have made a difference. Being able to make a human connection and enjoy being able to share communication skills.
What’s something you would say to encourage someone else to volunteer?
You don’t have to come from a teaching or education background to be successful as a literacy volunteer. Literacy volunteers and adult learners progress together.
