Volunteer Spotlight May 2024

Every month, the Citrus County Library System features a volunteer in their “Outside the Stacks” blog on their website. This month, Homosassa Library would like to shine the spotlight on Marilyn. We asked Marilyn a few questions and thought it would be fun to share her responses!

Volunteer Spotlight

Marilyn

Q: Why did you start volunteering?

A: I started volunteering after I retired because I needed to do something that I enjoyed but was also helpful to others.

Q: Why did you start volunteering?

A: I have been an avid reader since I was a child so libraries have long been an important part of my life wherever I lived and volunteering at the library seemed a perfect fit. It is a pleasure to go to Homosassa public library and work with such helpful, kind and caring employees. Young mothers enjoy bringing their small children there for a delightful story time.

Q: What book do you recommend to all of your friends to read and why?

A: A series of 8 books, “The Seven Sisters”, by Lucinda Riley was an exceptional series that I would highly recommend.  A new book I would recommend is “The Women” by Kristin Hannah.

Q: Who is your favorite author?

A: I average reading at least a book a week with John Grisham, Kristin Hannah and Karen Kingsbury being three of my favorite authors.

Q: Other than volunteering, what do you like to do with your free time?

A: I also enjoy playing bridge which I do one day a week with friends.

Q: Do you volunteer anywhere else in the community?

A: I volunteer one day a week at the Homosassa United Methodist Church as a receptionist. I think anyone who is retired should consider volunteering some place in the community. Not only do you meet and make new friends but it gives you a feeling of fulfillment.

Thank you, Marilyn, for dedicating your time to the Homosassa Library! We truly appreciate all of our volunteers and are glad to spotlight one of the many special people that help to keep our branch running smoothly.
