Volunteer Spotlight February 2024
Every month, the Citrus County Library System features a volunteer in their “Outside the Stacks” blog on their website. This month, Coastal Region Library would like to shine the spotlight on Alice. We asked Joan several questions and thought it would be fun to share her responses!
Alice
Q: Why did you start volunteering?
A: When I retired in 2021, I had planned to find volunteer opportunities to keep from getting bored.
Q: What inspired you to volunteer with the library?
A: My mother was a life-long library advocate, who encouraged us as children into adulthood to read and enjoy our “Library Time”! During summers growing up, every Wednesday, we’d go to the library, my six siblings and me. Mom also volunteered at libraries wherever she lived. She is my inspiration!
Q: Who is your favorite author?
A: I don’t have a favorite author. I have found that I enjoy a variety of authors and book subjects.
Q: What other causes are you passionate about and why?
A: I’m passionate about animals. They are defenseless against humans and deserve to be honored and protected.
Q: Do you volunteer anywhere else in the community?
A: I also volunteer at the Crystal River National Wildlife Refuge. They help protect and preserve our beautiful springs, so manatees can continue to live and thrive.
Q: Why is it important to you to volunteer at the library?
A: Volunteering at the library allows me to give back to something that has always been an important part of my life. Being at the library is peaceful and the people are wonderful.
Thank you, Alice, for dedicating your time to the Coastal Region Library! We truly appreciate all of our volunteers and are glad to spotlight one of the many special people that help to keep our branch running smoothly.
