Roll Out to the Library this September for Library Card Sign-Up Month
September is Library Card Sign-Up Month, a time when the nation’s public libraries highlight the value of a library card. Citrus Libraries is kicking-off the festivities by bringing back some fan favorites!
This year, we’re thrilled to have Optimus Prime from the TRANSFORMERS as out special ambassador, highlighting that there’s more than meets the eye at Citrus Libraries. Whether you’re looking to enhance your skills, find valuable information, or connect with fellow avid readers, a library card unlocks a world of possibilities. Today’s libraries are vibrant community centers offering much more than books. At Citrus Libraries you’ll find diverse programs, job search assistance, citizenship classes, book clubs, author talks, story times and more.
Curious about exploring a new hobby or learning a new language? Citrus Libraries has a class for you. Interested in learning how to us your technology to its fullest potential? We provide various instruction styles from classroom to hands-on, even 1-on-1 appointments to fit your needs. Did you know that Citrus Libraries also offers Birding Backpacks? There’s truly something for everyone at Citrus Libraries. Getting a card is easy and is an essential step toward academic success and lifelong learning for students. Everyone should get one!
Once again be partnering with local schools to ensure that all Kindergarten students have the opportunity to receive their first library card. Participating classrooms will receive a coupon that is good for one free kid’s meal from locally participating Subway restaurants. This year marks the 18th year that our local Subways have partnered to provide this additional incentive to families.
In addition to our partnership with Subway and Citrus Schools, we will once again, be working with the Friends of the Library to bring you our annual Gas Card Giveaway, which will run now through Monday, September 30, 2024. Anyone who comes into our branches this month to sign-up for a library card will be entered to win a $50 gas card. All current cardholders will also have the chance to win a $50 gas card for themselves whenever they visit the library this month. The drawings will take place on Thursday, October 3, 2024.
Since 1987, Library Card Sign-up Month has been held each September to mark the beginning of the school year. It is a time when libraries nationwide join together to remind parents, caregivers and students that signing up for a library card is the first step towards academic achievement and lifelong learning. A public library card can open the doors to free educational resources and activities that bring families together. Libraries not only provide resources to parents and children that support early literacy and lifelong learning, but truly transform how families spend time together.
Patrons are encouraged to join Citrus Libraries throughout September for special programs that will bring together library lovers of all ages, including:
- Heroes: Florida Lighthouses – with Ken Smith of the US Lighthouse Society at the Coastal Region branch in Crystal River on Tuesday, September 10 at 1:00 PM
- C4Con: Citrus County Comics and Cosplay Convention at the Homosassa branch on Saturday, September 14 from 9:00 AM – 3:00 PM
- History Hour: Ladies of Country Music – International Music Day at the Coastal Region branch on Monday, September 16 at 1:00 PM
- Honoring Those Who Served – Military Tribute Motorcycle Showcase at the Central Ridge branch in Beverly Hills on Friday, September 20 from 1:00 PM – 3:00 PM
- Honeybees and Pollinators at the Lakes Region branch in Inverness on Friday, September 20 at 1:00 PM
- Oreodont, the Ruminating Hog at the Central Ridge branch on Monday, September 23 at 1:30 PM
- History Hour: The Civil War’s Bloodiest Day: the Battle of Antietam at the Homosassa branch on Tuesday, September 24 at 2:00 PM
- Heritage Hour: Rosie the Riveter at the Floral City branch on Wednesday, September 25 at 2:00 PM
- Citrus Strings Chamber Music Concert at the Homosassa branch on Monday, September 30 at 2:00 PM
