Libraries and Education Foundation Partner with Toys for Tots
This year, Citrus Libraries was delighted to once again partner with Marine Toys for Tots to assist in distributing books to children in the community. Citrus County Toys for Tots Coordinator, Paul Pilny, learned that they would be receiving more than 1700 new books to go to children during the holidays. “Paul called me on a Monday, and by Wednesday they were at the library dropping off dozens of boxes of books,” said Central Ridge Branch Supervisor Danielle Damato Doty.
This year, Citrus Libraries also enlisted the help of the Citrus County Education Foundation. With their assistance, the books have been distributed to local elementary and middle school children. “The Citrus County Education Foundation has a direct connection to the schools, and know where the biggest needs are. With their help we are able to get the books into students’ hands quickly and efficiently,” said Library Director Eric C. Head. “We are hopeful that donations such as this one will happen more regularly, and we look forward to every opportunity to help foster a love of reading, especially during the holiday season. And, it was a real honor to be joined by these USMC Veterans to kick off this year’s distribution.”
Toys for Tots has been spreading happiness and hope during the holiday season since 1947, and currently serves more than 850 communities across the country.
