Get Scaly with Florida’s Fabulous Reptiles
“Red touches yellow, kill a fellow. Red touches black, friend of Jack.” Pretty much any Florida native grew up with that phrase, a catchy little mnemonic meant to differentiate between the harmless king snake and the venomous coral snake. But how much do you really know about Florida’s snakes?
To talk about Florida is to talk about Florida’s wildlife, and Florida’s most well-known wildlife is the kind that hisses, slithers, and sometimes rattles. Florida boasts 46 species of native snakes and you can learn all about them in an upcoming program hosted by the Lakes Region Library in Inverness on Friday, March 8 at 3:00 PM. Sarah Helm from the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission will be here to tell you all about our reptilian neighbors.
Library programs are free and available to everyone. For additional information about programming please call your local branch or follow @CitrusLibraries on Facebook or Instagram. Additional information can also be found by visiting us at citruslibraries.org.
