Explore the History of Black Education in Citrus County at Heritage Hour

An all new, inspiring and thought-provoking Heritage Hour at the Floral City Library will debut on Wednesday, February 12, 2025, from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM, where we will explore the history of Black education in Citrus County during the era of segregation.

In this enlightening discussion, speaker Andrea McCray will share stories of strength, unity, and resilience, highlighting the local Black community’s efforts to provide quality education despite systemic inequalities. Learn about the historical significance of George Washington Carver Elementary School and Booker T. Washington High School, and discover how the Black community of Citrus County rallied together, overcoming challenges and laying a foundation of perseverance and hope for future generations.

Don’t miss this opportunity to reflect on an important chapter of Citrus County’s history and honor the legacy of those who paved the way for progress and equality.
