A Rare Opportunity: Dinosaur and Fossil Events
As we begin 2022, Citrus Libraries is looking back at some prehistory.
Starting in January, there will be a dinosaur fossil display at Lakes Region Library throughout the month. Featuring the Spinosaurus, this display will lead us into the presentation Enter the World of the Dinosaur to be presented by David Letasi, Paleontologist, on January 29th at 10:30 AM. He will introduce children and the general public to the diversity in dinosaur adaptations to their environment. A follow-up, hands-on activity about microstudies and field techniques will introduce how the scientific community arrives at this understanding of how dinosaurs exploited their habitat and their extreme diversity.
The Enter the World of the Dinosaur display and presentation will then travel to the Central Ridge Library for the month of February. The fossil specimens for display are rarely publicly offered and they are all superstars in the world of dinosaur and paleontology research. The presentation will be on February 26th at 10:30 AM.
But that’s not all!
Also in February, the Hell Creek Microfossils display will be at Lakes Region Library and the presentation will be on February 19th at 10:30 AM. Then the Hell Creek Microfossils will be at Central Ridge Library for the month of March. The presentation is on March 26th at 10:30 AM. Attendees will examine microscopic fossil remains of pre-Paleocene inhabitants from the Hell Creek formation found in our western states of Montana, Wyoming, and North and South Dakota.
