Coming to Your In-Box: Updated Library Notices in April 2025

Beginning April 2, 2025 the Citrus County Library System will be updating their notices system. The new style of notices will feature a more modern look, with details about “on-hold” items, renewals, and when materials are overdue. One of the biggest changes will be the return of text messages to patrons who have opted to receive those. “The newer notices have been a long-requested addition from patrons,” said Library Acquisitions Manager, Karen Fellows. “When we had to remove text message notices more than a year ago, patrons were quick to let us know that they wanted them back!”
Hold notices will be sent every hour, with a reminder message two days before your hold will move to the next patron. Overdue notices will be sent prior to an item’s due date, as well as after. As a reminder, Citrus Libraries remains fine free, however, once an item has been overdue for 60 days, it will be automatically billed, and a notice sent to the patron in the mail.
In addition to the updated notices, the team who has been working on this project says that there will be additional features soon to come. “We know that our patrons want ease of access when it comes to their accounts,” said Fellows. “Soon, patrons who have existing library cards with us will be able to fill out an online form that will send them a digital barcode to be added to the ‘wallet’ on their smartphones.” As new features are added to the system, you can expect to see monthly library newsletters with the same, refreshed appearance.
The easiest way to ensure that you are receiving timely updates about your library account, is to make sure your account has been updated. Patrons who are unsure if a mobile phone number is attached to their account can contact their branch and speak with a staff member. Information on how to contact your nearest branch is available at citruslibraries.org/locations or by following us @CitrusLibraries on Facebook and Instagram.
