Citrus Libraries: Healthy Mind, Healthy Body
Activities like Tai Chi and Reiki Shares not only benefit your mind and body, but can be a great way to connect with others. Citrus Libraries is happy to host several Health & Wellness events throughout the month of April and beyond.
On Thursday, April 21 at 1:00 PM at the Central Ridge branch, Reiki Master Betsy Schwartz will be presenting an The Ancient Practice of Reiki for Wellness; an introduction to Reiki and how it can improve sleep, reduce stress, and promote overall well-being.
On Mondays at 5:30 PM at the Homosassa branch, you can give Belly Dancing a try. It’s a fun and low-impact exercise that improves balance and flexibility as well as builds cardiovascular strength and muscle tone.
On the last Tuesday of each month at 5:00 PM, the Coastal Region branch hosts Doreen Lavista, who guides an immersive meditation session focused on stress reduction and relaxation while enjoying peaceful music and breathing exercises. Participants should bring either a yoga mat, cushion, pillow, or back support for using a chair.
Every Wednesday at 4:45 PM at the Lakes Region branch, Eric Poling, student of the master, C.S. Tang, of Hong Kong, teaches Yang Tai Chi 13. This form of Tai Chi emphasizes the building of strength, balance, and co-ordination through simple movements that also relax the mind and deepen the breathing. Registration is required.
On Thursdays at 9:30 AM and 10:45 AM, Tai Chi classes are held at the Floral City branch. The first class is Beyond the Basics Tai Chi, and is designed for seasoned participants. For those who are looking to learn more about Tai Chi, they should plan to attend the 10:45 AM, Beginner Tai Chi class.
