Citrus Libraries and Dementia Education Expand Partnership
Citrus Libraries is delighted to announce an expansion to their partnership with Dementia Education. For more than five years, Citrus Libraries has worked with Coping with Dementia, LLC to provide dementia support groups and educational presentations to members of the Citrus County community. Recently, Citrus Libraries staff met with local dementia professionals Debbie Selsavage and Ed Youngblood to discuss the possibility of a new project that would benefit caregivers, and their loved ones, who are living with dementia.
Through a $3,000 donation made by Dementia Education, Inc., Citrus Libraries will be working on a new project for the community: Compassionate Care Kits. These kits will be designed with both the caregiver and the loved one in mind. “Kits will have activities for them to do together, as well as resources that the caregivers can utilize. Each branch will have kits available for checkout, for a total of 25 kits across the system. With the help of various staff members, we are looking at having these kits available for checkout by early June 2022,” said Library Director Eric Head.
Coping with Dementia will be presenting their ABCs of Dementia program at the Coastal Region branch on Monday, April 18 at 10:00 AM. For anyone who is interested in attending, you should contact Debbie Selsavage by emailing her at deb@coping.today. If you’re in need of a support group, Citrus Libraries also provides access for Citrus Libraries Coping Connection, a virtual support group led by Debbie Selsavage. This program occurs on the first and third Tuesdays of the month at 1:00 PM at the Central Ridge branch.
